3D printing queue and collect
New for 20/21 (and until we can safely get you back in the studio for self service use of equipment) we’re operating a 3D print farm service. If you have a model you need 3D printed and are a member of the University of Edinburgh community simply follow the steps below.
Slice
Slice your model using the Prusa Mini or Ultimaker 3 settings available here.
Upload
Upload your .gcode file below. We’ll check it for issues and add it to the queue.
Monitor
We’ll be in touch when your print starts and provide you with a timelapse to review the progress of your print.
Collect
Once complete, we’ll get in touch to arrange collection from the Main Library.
We’ve introduced some new rules while we’re running a queue and collect service to ensure everyone at the university has the opportunity to experiment with 3D printing:
- This service is only available to current University of Edinburgh students and staff.
- All 3D prints submitted to the queue will be carried out on a first come first served basis.
- One concurrent 3D printer will be operated per user. If you submit multiple files at the same time these will be printed back to back on the same printer. Not across the farm.
- Print file preparation follows a self service model. While we encourage you to fine tune our settings to get the perfect print for your needs, any failed or low quality 3D prints occuring as a result of changes made to our recommended slice settings are the responsibility of the file uploader.
